Leaf Chain Earrings

In spring,
the trees wake from the winter’s slumber
and over time
(in some places in hours!)
the put out shoots which develop into leaves.
Amazing things: leaves.
They capture sunlight
and use the solar energy to create food for the tree.
Transfer the air into usable material.
Some trees turn their leaves down when they sense rain approaching.
All through the summer,
leaves provide shelter for the animals
who inhabit the trees.

In English,
we sue the term “leaf”
to describes the pages of a book
and then again use the metaphor:
“turn over a new leaf”
in reference to “starting again, fresh and new”.
We eat them,
wear them,
use them in all kinds of ways,
both the actual leaves and the ones we mimic.

One of my favorite pass times
is to watch the trees move in the wind,
to feel the air move
and hear the sound of leaves stirring in the branches,
creating ever changing patterns.
The leaf stirs the imagination.

Leaf Chain Earrings

Leaf Chain Earrings

In celebration of the Leaf,
I have created the Leaf Chain.
The earrings are three different leaves,
descending;
connected by soldered jump rings for security,
framing the face with a very organic look.
Because they are of a chain,
they move as you do.

Each earring is 1 1/2” long
with a Shepard’s hook earring finding.
Perfect for those who love trees,
leaves and Nature.

Fire is considered “Transformitive”:
under the right conditions,
it transforms wood to heat and light,
bringing an otherwise cold room to comfort.

Fire can cook food,
disinfect a tool,
melt metal so it may be re-shaped to a purpose.
When out of control
it can alter a landscape,
take lives and leave a wasteland.
As a symbol,
fire represents a quality of Transformation,
changing one thing to another
including altering one’s very thought processes.
It is no wonder the Ancients used Fire and a symbol
of primordial change.

Flame Earrings

Flame Earrings

In my line of jewelry,
I have created the Flame Earrings.
Small tongues of flame leaping up to the ear
flashing in the light with your every move.
The links of flame from my flame chain
add a great accent to any flame amulets,
bracelet or fire creatures.

Pentacle Earrings

Pentacles often had no connotation of “five”
in the old magical documents,
but were magical talismans inscribed with any symbol or character.
The most common “pentacle” is the five point star.
In it’s earliest form symbolized the first “ADAM”,
signified in early art as “Human Perfection”,
the “First Man” in the Garden of Eden.

Pentacle Earrings

Pentacle Earrings

Pentacles are used in the Tarot
to signify Matter or the Material World.
Each of the Pentacle cards represents a scenario and lesson about money,
influence and decisions.
The five pointed star is found everywhere
from a Sheriff’s badge to a countries’ flag;
it is found in nature within apples,
in flowers and trees.

The Pentacles as a five pointed star
represents the balance between the Elements
(Fire, Water, Air, Earth)
under the Spirit (the top point).
When presented with the top point up,
this is a symbol of health,
wisdom, balance and good fortune.

The Pentacle Earrings are solid,
yet light with a top bail
and soldered jump rings for security;
mounted on Shepard Hook earring findings.
I make them in sterling silver,
however I have been known to create them in other metals for special orders.

The Snake
has been revered as a Spiritual Symbol
by a multitude of different spiritual paths.
The Egyptians have used them as a symbol of royalty.
The Greeks referred to the Cobra as “ the Little King” or Basilisk.
Snakes in general have been used as symbols
in the Caduceus of medicine.
The Ouroboros is a symbol of eternity
as it swallows it’s own tail.

The Snake Amulet

The Snake Amulet

In the Study of Yoga,
the snake symbolizes Kundalini:
a kind of spiritual energy which may be awakened
and harnessed for a variety of purposes.
Although in some sectors,
the snake has gotten some bad press,
in general,
the snake has been viewed as a soul guide,
past life memories,
the wisdom of the Goddess,
Freedom from Religious prosecution
and many other ideas.

This amulet is focused
on the head and cowl of the Cobra,
it’s body disappears beyond sight.
When coiled,
the cobra’s tail disappears into it’s coils,
so too this image shows a snake “without a tail”.
Tongue out and watching your every move,
this snake is focused
and ready to strike if needs be.

Inspired by the drum circle!
Drummers, dancers and guardians of the fire,
each figure participates in the drum circle in their own way.
A man and woman drummer,
two male dancers with antlers on their heads,
one entering the circle,
one “holding” energy within his hands,
two women dancing in long and flowing skirts,
one woman playing a tambourine,
one girl simply leaping out of shear happiness.
A man striding through the drum circle
and finally
a guardian standing to protect
those who are celebrating the circles music.

Drum Circle Collection

Drum Circle Collection

Each figure is only one inch tall,
a full three dimensional sculpture
with front and back
and a small opening at the top from which to hang your chain or cord.
Although each of these dancers
and drummers may be purchased separately,
this offers you the entire collection.

These amulets of the Drum Circle
may be used as charms for your drum;
components to your charm bracelet hang on a jacket
or as a pendant around your neck.
For those that love the drum,
rhythm and music in general;
evoking exuberant cooperation,
spontaneous creativity and Joy.

The Ra Amulet

The Sun represents light, warmth,
and growth making sun deities very important to early cultures;
it is no coincidence that the sun came to be the supreme ruler.
In Egyptian myths,
the Sun was seen as Ra.

The Ra Amulet

The Ra Amulet

Ra travels in The Boat of the Millions
protecting its fires from the waters
of the underworld during the night.
Ra travels in the Sun Ship
with various other deities including Set,
Mehen and Ma’at who guided the boat’s course.
Sunrise is the rebirth of the Ra by the goddess Nut and the sky,
thus attributing the earliest written concept
of rebirth and renewal to Ra
the Creator and protector
of the Light.

The images typically reveal Ra in profile.
This Ra Amulet develops a full face of the God
looking straight at you.
This is both to intensify the aspect of the Noble Deity
and to herald the New Aeon:
what was once considered sacred and set aside
is now in our midst are recognized
for what they truly are.

The Ra Amulet is a solid,
heavy two inch amulet
with a back bail positioned behind the disk of the Sun
for a chain or cord.

Diana’s Custom Cross

Posted by Amulets by Merlin on June 1, 2013

A cross for my friend Diana.
Commissioned to be worn for her liturgical practices at her church:
giving blessings and communion.
Originally designed from a Celtic style,
this over sized pectoral cross had enough room for interior design,
so I have included symbols which personalize the cross for her.

Diana's Custom Cross

Diana’s Custom Cross

From the foundation,
the symbol of water,
a small “knot” representing movement.

Above this a chalice,
from it rising the sign of Pisces
(her birth sign)
which supports the communion wafer
and above that the image of the chalice rises above.

This signifies the “spirit” of communion
transcending its physical restraints.
On either side is the waxing and waning moon,
signifying her name “Diana”
(the Goddess of the hunt and protector of the innocent).

In the center is the equal armed cross
symbolizing the material world.
It was carved to be convex:
capturing light and reflecting it differently
each time you see it:
much as the world does.
This is a reminder to “look twice”
for everything may not be as it seems.

Above this is the Sun,
the center of our Solar System,
typically the symbol
of the “center of all things”
and “the light”,
the source of all things.

Diana’s Custom Cross is a very large,
heavy, solid sterling piece
designed for specially for Diana.

If you would like something made specificity for you,

The Solar Cross Earrings

An equal Armed cross in a circle
sometimes referred to a Odin’s Cross as earrings.

The Solar Cross Earrings

The Solar Cross Earrings

This shape has been cited in the prehistoric religions of the bronze age of Europe.
Connected with the Bronze Age of Europe’s Spoked Chariot wheel
(originally, the wheel had four spokes)
seems to have reached Europe in the mid second millennium BC
in the context of the Sun Chariot.

The symbol also appears on the Snoldelev Stone in Denmark:
a ninth century Rune Stone.

In Native American terms,
the symbol represents the universe separated in it’s active and passive principles.
Similar to the descendants of the old religions of Europe Solar Traditions,
the wheel of the year illustrates the movement of the seasons:
the solstices and equinoxes.
The time of year has great meaning to the Old Ways: when to plant,
when to harvest, when to prepare for winter and so on.

Made of metal,
but the texture is that of stone,
referring to it’s ancient origins.
The Solar Cross Earrings
are bold and stand away from the disk:
slightly domed;
giving this piece a very three dimensional feel
