After the creation of Song the Dragon, I asked Tony to “scribble” (that’s what she calls it) out another dragon design. Because of the kind of detail in her dragons, the “scribbling” quickly is recognizable as scales, accenting the dragon’s features. The one she drew next was a wide winged beast with trailing mustache and a delightful grin.
“There” she told me. “This one is laughing;” and so it was. I had to chuckle just to see it floating on the page. As I created the amulet I had to laugh, it seemed to change characters as it progressed. I use a sculpting technique that is unusual in the creation of amulets, I utilize a softer wax so it my bend and extrude much like clay does. Hence much of my work tend to look more fluid and the design process continues as it is developed. In this case the face kept changing from recognizable as people I knew: all laughing as I sculpted.
To finish the piece, I added a bail behind the head, this way the dragon hovers on the chain or cord, looking very much lit it is flying on the breast of the person wearing it. If you look closely, there is in the scales Tony’s signature – but it is tiny! I added my own signature on the back, so like the Song Dragon and the Baby Dragon, Mirth the Dragon is developed from one of M’Lady Tony’s Dragon designs.
The amulet is for those who wish to share good times and a delightful sense of humor: a laughing dragon indeed! If you wish to get yours, please visit my Mirth the Dragon Amulet Page.
